Project Coordinator
The Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU) is established to provide unified management, coordination, fiduciary, safeguard and reporting for donor funded initiatives across ministries, departments, and agencies.
The unit is currently staffed with specialized professionals to ensure effective project delivery. Key positions include:
- Project Coordinator – provides overall leadership and coordination.
- Operational Manager – oversees daily operations of specific projects
- Environmental Safeguard Specialist – ensures compliance with environmental standards.
- Social Safeguard Specialist – addresses social and gender‑related safeguards.
- Senior Financial Management Specialist (FMS) – manages financial oversight.
- Senior Procurement Specialist – ensures transparent procurement processes.
- Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist – tracks project performance and outcomes and prepares project reports.
- Communication Officer -manages internal and external communication.
Additional support staff include M&E Officers, Procurement Officers, Administrative Specialists, and IT/Communication Specialists. Staffing levels are periodically reviewed to match the size and complexity of the project portfolio.
As the central coordinating authority for MoFEA project management activities, the CPCU is expected to;
- Enhance efficiency in project management by leveraging modern productivity tools, standardized processes, and professional oversight.
- Improve coordination and collaboration among diverse project teams, government institutions, and stakeholders.
- Optimize resource allocation and strengthen budget management to maximize impact.
- Ensure timely completion of projects through robust planning and monitoring systems.
- Promote knowledge sharing and adoption of best practices to continuously improve project preparations and outcomes.
The CPCU currently manages a project portfolio worth over $ 243 million USD, comprising the following;

- Overseas and manages the implementation of all project activities under the purview of the Ministry
- Facilitates the evaluation, appraisal, negotiation and implementation process of the projects within the Ministry
- Interface between the ministry/ beneficiaries and the donors in the implementation of development projects within the Ministry
- Carry out the procurement, financial management, monitoring and evaluation activities of the projects
- Provides the Government as well as the donors the project implementation progress reports on monthly and quarterly basis.
In the drive to achieved efficient and timely execution of projects, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs have established the Project Coordination Unit. The establishment of the Unit helps save resources in terms of avoiding the duplication Project Implementation Units for each individual project for the ministry.
Currently PCU manages the following projects within the Ministry:
- Integrated Financial Management System 1 &1( World Bank)
- Institutional Support For Economic and Financial Governance (ADB)
- Inclusive Growth Promotion Institutional Support Project (ADB)
- The Green Climate Fund (GCF)
- Economic Management Project (UNDP)
- Produced regularly quarterly implementation progress report
- Coordinated project steering and implementation committees meetings
- Supported donor implementation support missions
- Monitored and supervised contracts administer by the project
- Supported the capacity development initiatives of the project beneficiaries
